Individual Insurance includes plans you can purchase individually and direct through an insurance company; many companies offer it to self-employed people or to those who works for a business that does not serving health insurance. Choice of health plans may be restricted to individual health insurance in other states. Some insurers can medically guarantee applicants and do not have to suggest coverage to every applicant.
Employers can be offered by the employer through private insurance company or self-funding. This is called an Employer Sponsored Insurance. Self-funded insurance is the kind of insurance wherein the employer uses its own money for its employee’s health care expenses. It is essential to know whether it is self-funded (regulated by federal government) or if it is from a private company (regulated by state insurance laws) so as because the first is not required to propose the same advantages as of the latter.

Undeniably true, but President George W. Bush vetoed over the successful Children’s Health Insurance Plan in the hopes of cutting government expenditures. The program has been made by President Bill Clinton during his presidency so that the children who belong to the lower strata of the society can also enjoy the benefits of having health insurance. President Bush was criticized by some of the Senators, saying that his decision of canceling the said program is something ruthless.
Perhaps, it is better if we delve more into the situation since according to the reports, some Republicans have commented that this might contribute to their loss (in case they lose) in this year’s elections. Do they really have genuine concern for the children, or is this just another political deception sugarcoated with so-called concern?

Just like any other war, the saga of the Children’s Health Insurance Program continues. It has gone two presidential vetoes and luckily, some more days before the program was about to run out, the United States Congress have decided to grant the CHIP program an extension until March 2009. Fortunately, at this point, the president intends to sign the bill. The legislation will approve some funds just enough to carry on the program at the level where it can still do the job of keeping the more or less 6 million children enrolled in CHIP no to lose their health insurance coverage.

AAFP’s Commission on Legislation and Governmental Affairs member and volunteer medical director for “Hope for Kids”, Audrey Boyd, M.D. of Columbia, SC has made an effort to urge doctors to enroll in the Children’s Health Insurance Program of their state as health providers. The purpose is for them to educate families about the importance of having health insurance coverage especially for the children. Her effort is in lieu of the new federal programs that may hinder efforts to insure children. Boyd fears that physicians may not enroll believing that patients who will receive federal assistance will be uncooperative. All the more that she encourages these doctors to enroll to educate eligible families of the opportunities they should not miss.
